Top 5 Favorite Podcast
I’ve been listening to podcasts for the past three or four years maybe and I learned that I love them. I really had no idea what they were or how many there were back when I first started listening to them. I learned quickly that there are so many different kinds. Currently these are some of my top favorites, there are others that I listen to but I listen to these the most and I’ll explain why with each one. Listen and give a few of these a chance, they usually never fail to feed my soul and add to my perspective in some sort of way.
Small Doses w Amanda Seales
First, let me say that I love Amanda. PERIOD lol. She seems like an amazing person and I really hope to meet her one day [I’ve seen her in person once at a comedy show]. Aside from that, she really does have some good view points on a plethora of topics and fun gems to learn from. With this podcast you’re guaranteed to get some food for thought if nothing else. I learn a lot from it because not only does she discuss things that may be going on around the world like voting but things that people may be battling with internally such as jealousy, intersectionality, traveling alone, the list goes on. Every episode gives insight to a endless array of topics.
The Read
Next up, is The Read with Crissle and Kid Fury. Based in New York, this comedic duo gives you your weekly dose of hip-hop & pop culture. I absolutely love this podcast because they’re funny, authentic, and feel as if they could be one of your best friends. Their topics vary depending on whats goin on in the media and they give their genuine opinion on the matter at hand. Beyond that, they also have a segment for listener letters where you can write in about an issue you may be having and they will do their best to help you out while giving you the real. As a frequent listener, these letters usually never fail to entertain me. I also love their black excellence segment which highlights black people doing great things or achieving good great accomplishments.
Oprah: Masterclass & Super Soul Conversations
Ok so these two podcasts give the same kind of inspirational vibe. Both feature insight from various different guests. These guests are usually authors, actors, musicians, athletes, public figures, etc. Super Soul Conversations is centered around answering life’s deepest questions and is more interview style. If you want to dive deeper into your spirituality & intuition, this ones for you. Masterclass gives you life lessons and personal insights from some of the most respected and well known names out there. If you draw inspiration from hearing about situations that famous people have gone through and learned from, this ones for you. For the record, I would like to say that both are great and worth a listen.
Jesus & Jollof
Fun Fact: this podcast is named after two things these ladies can not live without. The podcast though, is about them growing through life’s ups and downs, their personal stories, and things that we all deal with. Among discussing these things they share good life lessons and good advice for personal development. Many of you may know Yvonne from Insecure (a show I LOVE) but the pair both have several different projects and achievements of their own that fuel their conversations and views on this podcast. Listening to these two, you easily feel as though you’re listening to two homegirls casually chat and you’re the third homie. They’re relatable, funny, and easy to listen to all day long.
Crime Junkie
As the title states, if you love true crime stories (+cute dog stories) this one is for you. This show is hosted by two ladies, Ashley & Brit, and one thing that I love about this podcast is that their voices have this lullaby effect. Think scary night time story vibes but in the best way possible. Another thing that I love about this podcast is that some of their episodes are about missing people that need their stories told and heard by more people. The media usually does a poor job of shedding light on a number of missing person stories and this podcast helps to bring hope to those untold stories. On a lighter note, they sometimes tell cute puppy stories at the end of the episode called “pruppet of the month”.
